More Hot New Windows Mobile Phones

More Hot New Windows Mobile Phones

There’s hardly a new device these days that doesn’t include a phone. Rest in peace, dear PDA. A number of new Windows Mobile phone devices have recently come out or have been announced, and we’ll touch on some of the main ones this week. It’s an exciting time. The new devices include the new Treo from Sprint, a Star Trek from Cingular, and the HP 6900 series.

Reviews of Palm Treo 700wx from Sprint

Last week we noted the imminent availability of the Palm Treo 700wx from Sprint, and now a bunch of reviews are available online. This phone is compatible with Sprint’s EV-DO high-speed data network.

This device is very similar to the 700w, with a built-in camera, 128 MB of flash memory, and built-in Bluetooth wireless. New to this device is its ability to use the phone as a modem for a laptop and thereby access the Sprint EV-DO network at speeds up to 700 Kbps.

PC Magazine magazine has a review as well as a slide show .

MobileTechReview offers a very thorough review, with photos, benchmarks, and pros and cons. It concludes that the 700wx and the previous 700w are “by far the easiest Windows Mobile Pocket PC phones to use one-handed, and Palm's usability enhancements and hardware design are a winning combination.”

Other reviews can be found on Treocentral and Laptop magazine .

In addition, the forthcoming Treo 750v is now available for sale in the UK, but not much information is available on the Vodaphone site taking orders.

Cingular 3125 (aka HTC Star Trek)

One of my readers wrote to ask if I’d heard anything about the HTC Star Trek being released in the U.S. PDAStreet is reporting that Cingular will be releasing it in the coming months. No doubt my reader is interested because this phone is supposed to be the thinnest clamshell Windows Mobile phone so far — just 0.6 inches thick when closed. Available from carriers abroad under different names, it will be sold as the Cingular 3125.

It’s a quad-band GSM/EDGE phone with Bluetooth, microSD slot, 1.3 megapixel camera, 64 MB of flash memory, and a 240 x 320 (QVGA) display.

Motorola Q

The Motorola Q is one of the hotter new phones, and we’ve now posted our review .

HP IPAQ hw6940 Series Now Available in U.S.

You can now order the HP iPAQ 6940 Series Mobile Messenger series from HP's website for $600. It has a bit of everything: camera, GPS, and Windows Media Player 10 for playing music and videos. Apparently these devices are due to begin shipping on September 13. Pocket PC Thoughts has a valuable discussion.

Four New Devices from HTC

You probably know that the phone carriers don’t manufacture these devices but typically get them from a manufacturer in Taiwan—HTC. As the carriers make these devices available, they add a feature or two and give it a unique name.

HTC recently announced four new devices, but there’s no telling when the carriers will make them ava...
