I never could understand why anyone would pay such an exorbitant price for a uni-functional iPod when they could have a multi-functional PDA for the same amount that does so much more. Well, here’s an MP3 alternative that is more cost-effective and has more functionality than an iPod for you to consider.

The new Sandisk Sansa e140 MP3 player has a street price of around $80, plays 480 songs or 32 hours of music or audiobooks with built-in memory and up to 2 GB or another 1000 tunes with an SD expansion card. It sure sounds great to my tinny ear with its SRS WOW feature.

It has a digital FM auto scan tuner with a 20 station preset capacity and functions as a stopwatch as well.

The package contains a startup disk/manual minidisk CD, a USB sync cable, extremely comfortable earplugs, AAA battery, carrying case, and an arm strap.

Powered by a single AAA battery, it runs for 17 plus hours of playing time. Diminutive in size at 3”x2 1/8”x1/2”, it’s not as small as the very latest iPod, but it certainly has the iPod beat in the size of its price and its functionality. It entertains MP3, WMA, secure WMA, and Audible formats along with FM radio.

With an FM modulator, it can broadcast over your car's speaker system, which is a nice way of enjoying your tunes and audiobooks too.
